Scopaesthesia
Scopaethesia uses the unsettling feeling of being watched to to confront the psychological impact of surveillance. Using animatronic eyes and advanced computer vision, we recreate the sensation of scopaesthesia and encourage viewers to question their relationship with mass surveillance. Through this interactive installation, we hope to inspire dialogue around the importance of privacy and the potential consequences of unchecked surveillance.
Do you ever get that feeling you’re being watched?
This sensation is called Scopaesthesia. Today, everything we do is monitored or tracked in some capacity, but most of us don’t give it a second thought. This installation aims to confront the user with the state of surveillance capitalism, and make them question how they value their personal privacy.
