Pace
Most fidgets are used as a release not as regulation. They don’t guide breathing. They don’t encourage rhythm. They don’t build awareness. So I have redesigned the experience.
Step 1: User reaches for the object
Trigger:
The user notices discomfort (racing thoughts, fidgeting, tension, stress).
They reach for the fidget instinctively, the same way someone might grab any other fidget toy.
Step 2: Parallel Regulation (Fidgeting + Breathing Coexist)
User behavior:
The user fidgets freely.
They may ignore the breathing pattern entirely.
They are still getting the calming effect of the friction patterns
Step 3: Optional Mirroring
Transition point:
User notices rhythm
Breathing pattern is noticed through touch not instruction
Step 4: Energy release and breath
User behavior:
Energy is discharged through movement
Fidgeting slows naturally
Breathing aligns more with the object
Step 5: Transition to stillness
User behavior:
The user stops fidgeting
Occurs whenever they feel ready to be done releasing the excess energy
