DOLDRUM
DOLDRUM was developed from the concept of disabilities, support and stigma, and created by one student to develop their skills in game development: sound design, music, art, animations, backgrounds, tilesets, storytelling, level design, and most importantly, code. The goals of the project were to develop those skills and create a concrete vertical slice of a platformer game. The story and level design were inspired by Dante's Inferno, but the themes and characters were inspired by disabilities, mental health, and relationships. A big part of the development was allowing the player to choose their own path and who they want to support them as they struggle to reconnect with their body. The premise is around exploration, combating barriers, and connections with others. It's a fun little game meant for both more experienced players and newer or less dexterious ones.
Godot was the game engine used for the game. All visual assets were created in Procreate and the music was created using Hookpad and Audacity. Some SFX were sampled while others were created and modified in Audacity as well.
DOLDRUM is a 2D explorative, metroidvania platformer game following a small ghost on a journey to reunite with their body. Explore and survive a surreal space with strange creatures as you learned where and who you are and just how you got there. You'll meet guides and allies along the way that will help on your adventure.
