Afterliving Astronauts
When I was applying for colleges, I knew animation was something I wanted to try and pursue, and I was drawn to the CTD major by the idea of being able to take that creative drive and apply it to a practical, applicable education in technology. Over the course of my time at CU Boulder, I was always looking for an opportunity to take on a proper animation project, and Capstone provided me the perfect opportunity to close out my time at ATLAS with a project I could be proud of.
My first semester of Capstone preparation (RMPP) was dedicated to outlining the idea for the film's story, designing characters, and running tests to decide which programs I wanted to use. This prepared me for the second semester, during which I wrote, storyboarded, and animated the final film. I used Wonder Unit's Storyboarder, Blender, Audacity, Clip Studio Paint, and Microsoft Clipchamp.
Ultimately, I wanted to tell a story that was both funny and thoughtful, to help my audience to find more comfort in the simple joys of life, and to ask the question: what makes being alive so special? Over all the time I put into this project, I've become very fond of Kevin and QT, and I hope you enjoy watching their journey.
Afterliving Astronauts is an original 2D animated short about life, death, and exploring the cosmos. Join Kevin as his recently-deceased brain is plugged into a rocket and launched into space, with only a bubbly robot named QT to keep him company.
